Consumers might be able to snag the new Nexus 7 from certain Best Buy stores starting today.

An unidentified tipster told Engadget that the new tablet would hit Best Buy Stores on July 26, a few days ahead of the official July 30 sales date. Another source who claimed to be the manager of a Best Buy store backed up that information, telling the blog site that "there were few (of them) in my region," which means that "if you are present at a (Best Buy) location today at opening, you have a good chance of buying the tablet."

Some stores don't yet have the Nexus 7 in stock due to an agreement with Google, so it may to be a hit-or-miss affair. Buyers eager to grab the new Nexus should first call their local Best Buy outlet to see if the tablet is actually available.

However, online preorders for the Nexus 7, which kicked off yesterday, did show today as a pickup date for a number of stores that I found. To check this out yourself, open the Best Buy product page for the Nexus 7, either the 16GB or 32GB edition. Click on the link to Check Stores. Enter your zip code or city and state and then click Search. A number of stores should pop up, potentially with July 26 listed as the in-store pickup date.

CNET contacted Best Buy for comment and will update the story with any further information.
