We don't know much about it at this point, not even a name, but we do have two small teaser images of what Avegant is promising will be a revolutionary device in the field of wearable displays. It's a head-mounted stereoscopic projector that uses the company's Virtual Retinal Display (VRD) technology, relying on a combination of optics and a micromirror array to project an image directly onto your retina. Unlike Glass, the images will be immersive and stereoscopic, providing a full 3D effect.

The Ann Arbor, Mich., company has also signed on a new COO, Yobie Benjamin. Benjamin was formerly CTO at Citigroup, where he also served as chairman of the Citi Innovation Labs. He'll be speaking about the technology at the Glazed wearable-tech conference in San Francisco today ahead of a planned demonstration of a consumer-ready version at the 2014 International CES in January.
