These SATA hard drives are specifically designed for home and small office NAS systems that come with one to five drive bays. The new drives are available in both 2.5-inch (750GB and 1TB capacities) and 3.5-inch (4TB) designs. The WD Red lineup is a family of regular internal hard drives that work wherever other SATA hard drives are used. WD Red drives are compatibility-tested with top NAS systems and optimized for performance at reduced power consumption. The drive also offers improved reliability and protects customer data in the event of a power loss or disruption. The drive is slated to produce much less vibration during operation. Most importantly, the WD Red is more affordable than other hard drives of the same capacities that are designed for common usage.
