"I've never seen a market share that high before," Cook said on a conference call with analysts. The company has attempted to push its tablets into the education arena with textbook support and discounts for bulk purchases. Schools represent a potential source of growth at a time when the iPad's market share dominance has eroded in the general consumer market. Cook said the education business represented a potential $1 billion market for Apple. Apple on Monday reported fiscal fourth-quarter results that topped Wall Street expectations, led by strong iPhone sales. But iPad sales of 14.1 million units was short of estimates, and flat from a year ago. Apple could see a spike in iPad sales in the next quarter, with consumers likely scrambling to buy the iPad Air, which hits the market on November 1. The iPad Mini with Retina Display is scheduled for later in November.

Apple continues to dominate the market for education tablets.



Apple CEO Tim Cook said that iPads make up 94 percent of the market for education tablet, a stat that he noted was impressive, and unheard of in most businesses.


"I've never seen a market share that high before," Cook said on a conference call with analysts.


The company has attempted to push its tablets into the education arena with textbook support and discounts for bulk purchases. Schools represent a potential source of growth at a time when the iPad's market share dominance has eroded in the general consumer market. Cook said the education business represented a potential $1 billion market for Apple.
