The struggling mobile phone maker announced on Friday a third-quarter loss of $4.4 billion, a freefall from the loss of $965 million suffered in the previous quarter. Revenue also tumbled, nestling in at $1.2 billion from $1.6 billion a year ago. BlackBerry managed to sell only 1.9 million smartphones last quarter, an ugly downturn from the 3.7 million sold in the year-ago quarter. "With the operational and organizational changes we have announced, BlackBerry has established a clear roadmap that will allow it to target a return to improved financial performance in the coming year," BlackBerry Chairman and CEO John Chen said in a statement. "While our Enterprise Services, Messaging and QNX Embedded businesses are already well-positioned to compete in their markets, the most immediate challenge for the Company is how to transition the Devices operations to a more profitable business model." But the company continues to forge ahead by striking new deals. It also announced a new five-year agreement with Foxconn to develop and manufacture consumer smartphones for Indonesia and other emerging markets in early 2014.
