Lara Croft, the long-time popular game character, got a high-res makeover, thanks to the PlayStation 4.

In a video posted to its YouTube page, gaming site IGN showed the surprisingly major differences between the graphical quality in Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition running on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. The biggest differences can be seen in character models, with Lara Croft looking more humanlike and details on other characters resembling their real-life counterparts.

Although the video shows the differences between PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 versions of the game, the Xbox One is also getting the new Tomb Raider.

The level of detail added to the PlayStation 4 version is perhaps deserving of kudos to the game's development team. The game industry has been inundated over the years with simple ports of games with little to no effort given to bump up graphical quality on higher-end consoles. The Xbox One and PlayStation 4 have also been dogged by critics who say the games don't look "next-gen" enough. Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition aims to toss that idea on its head. Other games coming out this year will likely do the same.

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition is coming out at the end of January for both Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
