"Sherlock" star Benedict Cumberbatch recently visited "Sesame Street" to discover that there's a new villain in town -- a Muppet named Murray-arty! This isn't the first time "Sesame Street" has paid tribute to the Great Detective. In the past, Sherlock Hemlock has tackled mysteries in episodes of "Mysterious Theater," which spoofed the PBS series "Mystery!" Not to mention, "Muppet Sherlock Holmes" -- a comic book featuring Gonzo as Holmes, with Fozzie Bear as Dr. Watson, Kermit the Frog as Inspector Lestrade, and Miss Piggy in various female leads including Irene Adler. But just as "Sherlock" is an updated take on the legendary character Sherlock Holmes, it makes sense that "Sesame Street" wanted to show us a new villain worthy of Cumberbatch. In an episode that aired Tuesday, the dapper Cumberbatch attempted in vain to convince the Muppet that his role as Sherlock Holmes and his life as actor are indeed separate, but to no avail. Murray-arty renamed him Benedict Sherlock and challenged him to a brain-bending problem involving counting fruit. The game is on! Instead of asking his best friend Dr. John Watson for help, Cumberbatch asked the only Muppet that dresses better than he does -- the Count. Let's hope this video of Cumberbatch discussing fruit with Muppets doesn't spawn the weirdest Sherlock fan fiction ever to hit the Internet. Muppet memes, on the other hand, are fair game.
