As Satya Nadella ascends to his new role as Microsoft's chief executive officer, the company has tapped corporate VP Scott Guthrie to take over his former duties as lead of the Cloud and Enterprise Group.

Guthrie, who has been leading the company's Windows Azure platform team since 2011, was named interim chief of the department, reporting directly to Nadella, according to CNET sister site ZDNet's Mary Jo Foley. His promotion was announced internally on Monday, Foley reported

It was not immediately clear if he would be the permanent replacement, but Foley reported that she understood Guthrie a front-runner.

Known for wearing red polo shirts during public speaking appearances, Guthrie has held several roles since joining the company in 1997 as a program manager. In addition being a former leader of the company's .Net platform, Guthrie is also a frequent blogger for the company.
