Version 1.60 update brings support for Sony's Pulse wireless stereo headsets and new $99.99 Gold Wireless Headset, which hits stores soon. (Credit: Sony) Late tonight PS4 owners can update a new system update (version 1.60) that delivers support for Pulse and Pulse Elite Edition wireless stereo headsets to the PS4. At the same time, Sony announced the imminent arrival of its new Gold Wireless Headset, which launches "early this month" and, like the Pulse headsets, offers 7.1 virtual surround sound. The new headset also includes developer-created custom audio modes for specific for PlayStation games (the free Headset Companion App hits PlayStation Store in February), a noise cancelling microphone for voice chat, and customizable faceplates. Sony says the Gold Wireless Headset offers 8 hours of battery life, will also work with the PS3, and comes with a travel pouch. A custom audio mode will be available for Sucker Punch's upcoming inFAMOUS Second Son, due to hit the PS4 on March 21. These wireless headsets don't use Bluetooth, instead requiring a USB dongle that plugs into your console. You can use the Gold Wireless Headset with other mobile devices such as the PS Vita and various smartphones, but only in wired mode (cable included). It's unclear if the v1.60 update will bring any other new features. Currently, the PS4 doesn't support many features available to PS3 owners. For instance, the PS4 does not offer 3D Blu-ray playback or allow you to play your own media files. It also won't play CDs.
