The online retail giant cuts the price of the 7-inch, 16GB Kindle Fire HD by 12 percent in the U.S. and Europe.

Amazon is cutting the cost of the Kindle Fire HD, knocking 12 percent off the Android tablet's price. The price of the 7-inch, 16GB tablet has been slashed to $169 in the U.S., 139 pounds in the U.K., and 169 euros elsewhere in Europe.


The Fire HD originally cost $199. The discount follows a similar price cut on the rival Nook HD tablet.
