This isn't the first time the code name Cherry Trail has come up -- the first reports emerged last year. At the company's annual conference, beginning September 10, Intel is slated to highlight its "Silvermont" architecture for tablets and smartphones. Tablets using these chips should appear before the end of the year. Those tablets will support Windows 8.1 and Android 4.2, the report claimed. Intel's new platform for smartphones, dubbed "Merrifield," is also expected by the end of 2013 or early 2014. Intel declined to comment.
