Twitter has made over its Web search to return photos and accounts in search results, the information network announced Thursday.

The updates also mean that people will find a smarter search bar when they visit Twitter.com and start typing their queries. Twitter's Web search bar now exposes recent searches and highlights the follow relationship between users and suggested results, something the company refers to as "social context."

Thursday's improvements put Twitter's Web search on par with its mobile search, and provide users with enough additional context and content that they might stick around longer and come back more often. Photos, for instance, which are shown in a block in-line with results and accessible from a top left-hand menu, are now a particularly compelling part of Twitter's Web search experience.
