Foxconn reportedly told students from the Xian Institute of Technology that if they didn't finish the internship program, they wouldn't receive the necessary credits allowing them to graduate, Chinese site Tencent Games said on Wednesday. In response to that report, Foxconn told news site Quartz that an internal investigation did uncover policy violations. Specifically, XIT students at its Yantai factory were assigned night shifts and overtime hours. In its statement to Quartz, Foxconn promised to remedy the problem. "Immediate actions have been taken to bring that campus into full compliance with our code and policies," Foxconn said, including "reinforcing the policies of no overtime and no night shifts for student interns, even though such work is voluntary, and reminding all interns of their rights to terminate their participation in the program at any time." Foxconn also said that the students were "free to leave at any time." A similar situation arose last year when students reportedly were forced to do assembly work at a Foxconn factory under the guise of internships.
