The BlueSync is not only one of the cooler-looking Bluetooth speakers you'll ever see, but also an alarm clock with temperature sensor. Cheapskate exclusive! October 16, 2013 7:02 AM PDT Who knows what strange magic allows that cool LCD display to project through wood? (Credit: Accessory Genie) Bluetooth speakers come in all shapes and sizes, and there are even a few that can pull double-duty as an alarm clock. But who wants a clunky-looking hunk of plastic on their nightstand? This is better: For a limited time, and while supplies last, Accessory Genie has the GoGroove BlueSync TYM wooden Bluetooth speaker for $44.99 shipped. That's after applying coupon code SAVETYM at checkout. Regular price: $59.99 plus shipping. This is a Cheapskate exclusive: You won't find the deal anywhere else. Just saying. As you can see in the photo, the BlueSync TYM looks more like a traditional alarm clock than it does a Bluetooth speaker. Except that this clock has a wooden cabinet and an LCD display that's magically embedded into the front side. The display shows both the time and inside temperature. Why wood? Most audiophiles will tell you that a wood cabinet produces warmer, richer sound than a plastic one. Plus, there's no question it looks better, especially as an addition to your bedroom decor. Another plus: the BlueSync TYM has two speakers, one on either side, for true stereo sound. A lot of Bluetooth speakers are mono, or have two speakers squished so close together that you lose the stereo effect. This one also has a built-in mic for making and taking phone calls -- a really nice perk for those calls that come when you're still sleeping. One touch and you can mumble your "hello," without having to fumble with your phone. Along the top you'll find four flush-mounted touch controls: play/pause/answer, volume, and snooze. A handy cheat-sheet pasted to the bottom reminds you what short and long presses do, just in case you forget. CNET hasn't reviewed the BlueSync TYM, but there are lots of positive user reviews over at Amazon -- where, incidentally, it's currently priced at $83. If you've been shopping for a stylish alarm clock that can also pull Bluetooth speaker duty, or vice-versa, this could be just the gadget -- and just the deal -- you've been waiting for. Bonus deal: Looking to cut the home-phone cord? Ooma is widely regarded as one of the top solutions. Today only, and while supplies last, Tech.Woot has the refurbished Ooma Telo voice-over-IP home phone system for $79.99, plus $5 for shipping. That's the lowest price I've ever seen for the Telo, which gives you unlimited local and long-distance calling more or less for free (taxes may apply). And if you want advanced calling features, a Premier subscription runs just $10 monthly. I've been an Ooma user for years; it rocks.
