The 7-inch Kindle Fire HDX has started shipping to those who preordered the tablet.

Amazon announced the news on Friday, saying that customers who have previously ordered the slate will soon have it on their doorsteps. Those looking to buy the tablet now, however, will need to wait: Amazon's page says that the device won't ship on new orders until next week.

Amazon announced the Kindle Fire HDX last month. The device comes with a 7-inch screen, a 2.2GHz quad-core processor, and the company's Android-based operating system, Fire OS 3.0. The 7-inch model costs $229.

Customers who preordered the 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HDX have some more waiting to do. According to Amazon's site, that tablet won't ship until November 7.
