The successor to HTC's One will run Android 4.4 Kitkat when it makes its debut in 2014, or so says a reputable leak source.

The smartphone, code named 'M8', will reportedly also feature a 5-inch 1080p HD display and employ Qualcomm's quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor.

Both of the hardware specs dovetail with details tipped by Taiwan-based site ePrice.

Given the rumored device will be HTC's big release for 2014 we should expect they come out swinging for the fences. If they hope to keep pace with the current crop of top Androids they'll need need nothing less than the most updated specs. Previous leaks suggest the M8 will also boast 3GB RAM and a metal housing very similar to the current HTC One.

According to well-connected Twitter source @evleaks, the next-gen HTC handset should touch down at all four major U.S. carriers in early 2014.
