- A first glimpse at the Doctor's new "no frills" look reveals a Crombie coat and Doc Martens! January 27, 2014 4:30 PM PST This Doctor wears Dr. Martens! BBC One reveals actor Peter Capaldi's new look for his version of the beloved "Doctor Who" Time Lord. (Credit: BBC One) After 10.2 million tuned in to "Doctor Who" on Christmas Day to get their first glimpse of the Time Lord's latest regeneration, played by actor Peter Capaldi, it was more than just his intense stare that got fans excited. Every regeneration means not only a new Doctor, but also a new outfit for him to wear. In this picture, released today by the BBC, we see Capaldi in a rather conservative but dapper outfit -- no fez hats, no long scarves, no Chucks, and no bow ties for this Time Lord! Making a sharp impression with a dark-blue Crombie coat with red lining, dark blue trousers, and a white shirt, as well as black Dr. Martens shoes, the look for Capaldi was created by "Doctor Who" costume designer Howard Burden. "He's woven the future from the cloth of the past," Capaldi said about his Time Lord costume in a press release. "Simple, stark, and back to basics. No frills, no scarf, no messing, just 100 percent Rebel Time Lord." "New Doctor, new era, and of course new clothes," added Steven Moffat, the show's current head writer and executive producer. "Monsters of the universe, the vacation is over -- Capaldi is suited and booted and coming to get you!" "It's sharp, smart, and stylish -- the 12th Time Lord means business."
