Rocksteady Studios, the development house responsible for Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City is deep into production on what it's calling the finale to the Arkham series. Just announced as a reveal of Game Informer's April issue cover story, Batman: Arkham Knight will take place one year after the events of CNET's 2011 game of the year, Batman: Arkham City.

Arkham Knight will hit next-generation console and PC later this year. You'll recall last year's underwhelming effort Batman: Arkham Origins, which was instead developed by Warner Bros. Games Montréal. News of Rocksteady Studios' return to franchise should come as a relief to those who've enjoyed what's mostly been the best modern superhero video game adaptation.

The Game Informer story has more of the fine print, but players can expect a much larger and different area of Gotham City to explore as well as the chance to finally get behind the wheel of the Batmobile.
