Twitter has reportedly nabbed a Google advertising executive to be head of retail as the company attempts generate revenue and show it still has growth potential ahead of its initial public offering.

J.J. Hirschle, director of media and entertainment at Google, is joining Twitter and will "be responsible for the team selling advertising products to retail companies," a Twitter spokesman told Bloomberg Tuesday. Hirschle starts on October 28, according to the report.

CNET has contacted Twitter and will update this story if we get more information.

Hirschle joined Google in August 2004 as a senior account executive, according to his LinkedIn profile, and held several positions with the Web giant.

Twitter recorded revenue of $168.6 million in the third quarter and has 230 million monthly active users, the company said in an amended regulatory filing submitted Tuesday. Twitter also announced it will list shares on the New York Stock Exchange rather than the Nasdaq, which is the home to most public tech companies, such as Microsoft, Apple, Google, and Facebook.

Twitter formerly announced at the beginning of October its plans to go public and goal to raise $1 billion. Its IPO date could be as soon as November 15 and the social network will use the ticker symbol TWTR.
